| Purpose: | To give encouragement to both those who read and those who hear the scriptural readings |
| Population(s) served: | The congregation |
Skills & Qualifications:
- have a desire to share God’s heart as expressed in scripture, and to convey the meaning with heartfelt expression
- some public speaking experience is an asset as you must be confident and have clear reading skills, however these can be learned by practice if the heart is earnest
- a love for fellow Christians is a must
Spiritual Gifts Recommended:
- service
Training Provided:
- on-the-job training
Meeting Date & Time:
- no scheduled meetings
- readers may be part of a schedule, or may be called upon just before the service
Time Commitment Involved:
- you need a few minutes to read over the appointed scripture so that God’s message can be delivered with expression and passion
Description of Duties / Responsibilities:
- learn the sequence of the service in order to know when to come to the lectern
- introduce the scripture before reading it, and end with “This is the Word of the Lord”
- speak slowly and clearly into the microphone, or project if there is no microphone
- be open to the Spirit to convey the meaning
- be willing to be a transparent vehicle
Limits of the Position:
- limited to the reading of the day
